SFAME
SpitFire Advanced Message Editor
Users Guide
SFAME is a full screen message reader and editor. It includes many
features that will make it easier for you to read and enter messages.
This guide will describe some of those feature and how to use SFAME
to read and enter messages.
Caller Settings
───────────────
When you use SFAME for the first time, you should choose <I> from the
main menu and select the options you would like to use. You can select
the colors SFAME will use, choose an alias, and enter 2 taglines you
can place anywhere in your messages. You can also edit your address book
which will allow you to store up to 20 names or addresses. You can change
your settings any time by choosing <I> from the SFAME main menu.
Reading Messages
────────────────
When your at the SFAME Main Menu, you can choose <R> to Read or
<L> to List messages. When you select a message to read, you will
next see the message reader screen with the message information on
the top of the screen and the text of the message on the bottom. You
can use the up/down arrows to scroll the message or you can use
pageup/pagedown to move the message up or down 1 screen. Use your
right/left arrow keys to read a different message. To list the
available commands, choose <H> for the Help screen. You can also
press <O> for a menu of commands. When your reading messages, you can
press <A> and the current message you are reading will be placed in
a QWK packet. You can then choose <F> from the SFAME main menu to
download your QWK packet. You can not reply to the messages you
download. If you want to reply to the message your reading, choose <R>.
If you see [FILE] in the message information after the subject, that
means there is a file attached to this message. You can download
the file by choosing <J>. Choose <Q> to return to the SFAME Main Menu.
Entering Messages
─────────────────
You can enter a message by choosing <E> from the main menu or while
reading messages. When you choose to enter a message, you will first be
asked for some information. The first question will ask you which
conference you would like to save the message in. You can enter a
conference number or press <Enter> to list the conferences. Next, if
the conference allows NetMail, you will select whether to send the
message by NetMail. You will then be asked who the message should be
sent to and a subject. When asked who you want the message addressed to,
you can enter A and view your address book. When viewing your address
book, you just select which address you want to use and SFAME will insert
that name in the message To: field for you. After you have entered the
information, you will then see the message editor screen. You can use
your arrow keys to move around in the editor screen. Press <Ctrl-Z>
(Hold down Ctrl and press Z) for a list of options available. You can
also press <Ctrl-X> for a menu of options. Some of the options are
<Ctrl-U> which will allow you to upload a message, <Ctrl-B> will allow
you to mark blocks of text you can then move, copy, or delete. If you
are replying to a message, you can also choose <Ctrl-Q> if you want to
quote the original message.
When you are done editing your message, press ESCAPE and you will be
asked if you want to <S>ave your message, <C>ontinue editing message,
<A>bort (Cancel) Message or <B>egin again. You will also see the option
Attach <F>ile if your Sysop allows files to be attached to messages. If
you choose <F>, you will then be allowed to upload a file that will be
attached to the message. When a user reads your message, they will be
able to download the file.
Groups
──────
SFAME will allow the Sysop to place message conferences into groups.
A group can contain the conferences for a particular message network,
conferences with similar subjects or conferences grouped together for
any other reason. Choose <D> from the SFAME main menu if you want to
select a different group. You can choose <B> from the SFAME main menu
if you want to edit your group queue. If your Sysop has SFAME setup to
scan for your mail when you log-on, then SFAME will scan the conferences
in the groups you have selected in your group queue.
If you need help, press Ctl+Z and SFAME will display some help for the
current prompt or area you are in. The best way to learn how to use
SFAME is to simply try the different features. I think if you look
around SFAME and use it a few times, you will find it is very easy to use.
